NSF EPSCoR RII Track-1: Materials Assembly and Design Excellence in South Carolina
MADE in SC is supported by the National Science Foundation Award #OIA-1655740.
Despite noteworthy progress in the fabrication of large-area graphene sheet-like nanomaterials, the vapor-based processing still requires sophisticated equipment and a multistage handling of the material. A straightforward and technology-friendly dip-coating method to produce highly conductive (up to 104 S/cm) and transparent (~ 90%) reduced GO (rGO) monolayers and bi-layers has been developed and demonstrated. Moreover, the method of deposition is environmentally friendly and does not involve toxic organic solvents, and it can utilize conventional industrial equipment and be employed for the manufacturing of rGO-based conductive films on different substrates. Read more
SC EPSCoR is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2018 Phase-0 Program Awards. The Phase-0 Program provides $6,000 seed grants to small businesses seeking funding for their innovative ideas from Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs. This year's recipients are:

KnewTek™, LLC (PI: Mr. Thomas Riley): KnewTek is a start-up company located in Greenwood, SC, which is committed to the development of reliable alert notification systems to enhance the safety of people who are deaf or hard of hearing. KnewTek is working on several products for this purpose, which leverage digital technology to alert users of environmental threats.

KRyanCreative, LLC (PI: Mr. Kenneth Ryan): KRyanCreative, LLC is a seed-stage, start-up company focusing on matching innovative solutions to national problems. The company is an incubator for the founder's vision of a comprehensive, broad reach enterprise that nurtures innovation, encourages creativity, and advocates education as an enabler for personal, community, and societal success.

Micro-Sep, LLC (PI: Dr. Qian Wang): MicroSep LLC is a seed-stage research and development company founded in 2016 to develop commercially viable nanobiotechnology products.

Sai Global Technologies (SGT) (PI: Dr. Sriparna Bhattacharya): SGT is a minority, technology-based company. It aims to become a global leader in the production, processing, and applications of nanomaterials by providing quality, timely, cost effective and value driven solutions. SGT's diversified technology portfolio includes nanomaterials for defense, manufacturing, aerospace, water treatment, and energy applications.
Research Focus on

Ge Tao

MADE in SC Thrust 3 New Hire

Dr. Ge Tao’s lab at MUSC is dedicated to unveiling the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying myocardial homeostasis, injury, and repair. Over the past 5 years, Tao and his colleagues have been focusing on identifying what the young mammalian hearts have and the adult hearts don’t with the hopes of understanding how developmental pathways are connected to adult heart regeneration and providing novel strategies for treating heart failure caused by myocardial infarction.

As the cell biologist in the Thrust 3 team, Tao’s role also includes testing the interaction between cultured cells and biomaterials. The information obtained will provide guidelines for future design of biomaterials. Read More
