REU Program Focus On Dr. Clifton Harris

Dr. Clifton Harris, Chemistry at Winthrop University, was one of our recent REU recipients for his project, “Coupling of photo-oxidation and photo-reduction catalysts for the prevention of decomposition under illumination for sustainable water splitting.”

Maria Ojeda (left photo), a senior chemistry major at Winthrop, is working on electrodeposition of mixed tungsten (IV/VI) chalcogenide thin films for water splitting.

Says Harris, “Cale Faster, junior chemistry major, focuses on the fabrication of size and thickness-controlled nanoparticulate thin film assemblies of various stacked materials prepared my electrophoretic extraction from confined media. These films are intended for sustained water splitting.”
